In the group project that we had to do for finding different types of genres in law enforcement, my group and I found the four types of police reports, which were Type 1, Type 2, Type 3, and Type 4. In Type 1 it is known for no action is taken from the police officers. In this type the police officers only look, listen, and write. They also record what happened before you arrive and the challenges are the accuracy, professionalism, and completeness. These types specifically include incident reports. Some examples of them are theft, sexual attack etc. In type 2 it requires investigation. It is similar to type one the only difference is that they look, listen, write and then investigate. The police officers record what happened, plus the results of your investigation. The challenges they face are that the procedures were followed, and were included in your investigation even if they were negative. The next type was type 3 which is look, listen, write, investigate, and take an active role in resolving the situation. The information that is required is what happened, plus the results of your investigation and the nature of your intervention. The last type is type 4, which initiate the investigation and follow through with it. Tell why you got involved, and the results of the outcome of it. The probable cause maybe an issue from it.

The police report that I had to talk about was the type 1 report. In type 1 I had found examples of some police reports that did not engage in going further than just a look, listen, and write situation. There was a case involving a 10 year old girl named Victoria who was killed by her mother, the mothers boyfriend and the boyfriends cousin. While reading the article it stated that Victoria had mentioned to family friends that a different boyfriend of the mom's had tried to kiss her and also mentioned that the New Mexico's Children, Youth and families department had forward a complaint related to Victoria Martens five months before she died and the police ignored it. If the police did not ignore the situation it said they could have found out the Victoria's mother had been searching online for men who would engage in sexual activity with her children. The police did an interview with Victoria and her mother and said there was nothing suspicious with them and left it at that. The whole situation could have saved a child's life if the police would have actually done some investigating on her family, especially since they had gotten calls about it in the first place.
